Weekly Lesson: Acts Chapter 14 &15
Teacher: Bro. Chris Sims
Acts Chapter 14 -Paul is getting started in his missionary journeys
Acts 14:2-8
Topics discussed during verses
Unbelieving stirred up the Jews.
- Judaism is still prevalent, but was ended when Christ was crucified.
- They believe that someone should be sitting on David’s throne and rule Israel.
It’s hard to get the truth to people because they have preconceived notions of what salvation is. (Leads the person to confusion)
Bro. Chris mentioned never to discuss a conflict about the church in the presence of children or lost sinners. (This action will plant a seed in their minds that church is bad)
Acts 14:9-22
Topics discussed during verses
Bro. Chris talked about the transitional Church in the book of Acts and how people had to meet secretly in people’s houses. (We are very blessed that we have the opportunity to worship in God’s house amongst our fellow brothers and sisters.)
Bro. Chris mentioned the difference in dispensation of the early church. A key point of interest is it is easy to get doctrinally tripped up, if someone tries to establish doctrine based on the happenings in Acts alone.
Paul, being an Apostle, had the authority and power to heal.
Key to healing: have to have faith to be healed.
Some people put more emphasis in the action than in faith.
Acts 14:23-28
Topics discussed during verses
First time you see ordination of elders (deacons)
- In the early church they fasted (once again)and prayed and had a lot of power.
Do you see the pattern in the scripture?
Wherever Paul and Barnabas went, they preached the gospel.
Sunday in and Sunday out the most important thing is the preaching of the gospel.
- Always have a good spirit about the preaching and God’s man.
Acts 15:
Topics discussed during verses
Question: (Bro. Kelly Treece)
Why do we see circumcision so much throughout the bible and why was it important?
- God’s covenant with the Jews
- Symbol of cleanliness
- Couldn’t eat certain birds and fish, etc….
Gentiles were thought to be unclean because they didn’t practice this method.
